COERR Mae Sot Organized Traditional Activities

   1) COERR Mae Sot organized herbal compress ball making and traditional message which helps to relieve strained muscles and tensions; stiffness in the joints and to stimulate blood circulation in order to sooth and clear stress mind. COERR Trainer introduced to 50 elderlies who came to learn for the first time about benefits of using herbs for the following physical and mental therapy: Zingiber cassumunar relieve pain and inflammation; Bergamot peel oil relieve faintness and dizziness and promote relaxation; Lemongrass and tamarind leaf reduce itching and irritation; Acacia concinna leaf nourishes skin and heals skin disease; Turmeric heals inflammation and skin disease; Salt absorbs heat and encourage percutaneous absorption of herb; Camphor promotes blood circulation; Borneol heals blister and cures cold, etc.

   After introduction of herb, trainer started the production by putting the herbal ingredients to be pounded and mixed together, followed by Camphor, borneol and salt. Then trainer demonstrated how to wrap these specific herbs in unbleached cotton cloth, and warm in steamer.

   Then all participants tried making their own compress ball. They applied herbal compress ball to any affected areas, gently press while rolling, dragging and pressing against the skin: shoulder, knee and back of head, etc. to relieve pain and for relaxation. They finally learned about how to take care of the compress ball and took home with them. Camphor and borneol were given so they could do the herbal compress ball at home.

  

   2) COERR organized the dish cleaning liquid in Ban Umpiem twice in August: On 16th for 25 refugees including 14 women and 11 men, and another training was organized on 17th in which there were 26 participants of 18 women and 8 men attending. The skills training has been provided by the livelihood program trainer, with the objectives that vulnerable refugees especially the elderly could be capable of making dish washing liquid for household use, for sale as income generation and for sharing the skills with others, such as for younger family members.

   The trainer has divided the participants into 4 groups so the group members can work closely to each other and can ask if they have any questions for more understanding. Finally, an elderly was chosen to be representative and explain about what they had received from attending such activity. So the elderly conclude the activity as useful in terms of team working and household benefits.

  

  

   3)In October, there were training of liquid detergent making being organized 3 times: on 16th had 40 participants comprising 32 female and 8 male; on 17th had also 40 participants of 29 female and 11 male; and on 18th had 45 participants of 33 female and 12 male. Training were provided by trainer of Livelihood Program.

   In addition to reducing cost of buying such household product, benefits of the activity is that using liquid in washing make it easier and cleaner to wash and rinse than using powder detergent that could have some powder stuck in the clothes after washing. Moreover, soaking dirty clothes in the washing liquid overnight will not cause smell as it has no powder mixture.
